Accountants added to sports bar team; LEISURE.(Business) - The Birmingham Post (England)

A fast expanding sports bar specialist has teamed up with accountants Horwath Clark Whitehill to open new pitches all across the Midlands.

Bar Sport, the Cannock-based themed bar specialist, has acquired its latest site in Loughborough to build on a chain that already has branches in Cannock, Rugby and Walsall.

Bar Sport has only been in existence since 1997 - managing director Scott Murray puts its secret down to a focus on top sporting events combined with good food and drink and high service levels.

He dreamt up the concept for Bar Sport during his career as an amateur heavyweight boxing champion when he was training in Houston, Texas, and saw how popular sports bars were there.

But rather than go head to head with the big leisure chains in the UK's major cities, he decided to target High Street sites in secondary cities, particularly those with a high student population.

His latest venture in Loughborough was made possible when he met Pat Moore, chairman of the Midlands practice of Horwath Clark Whitehill.

'I was introduced to Pat this year and we have worked together as a team to find the best solution for my expansion plans and my aim of further enhancing the Bar Sport brand,' said Mr Murray. 'She identified Dermott Kelly at Allied Irish Bank (GB) in Wolverhampton, and a funding package was delivered very quickly which has financed the new Loughborough development.'

The Loughborough Bar Sport will open with a VIP night on November 29, after which it will be open to the public.

Ms Moore said: 'This is an interesting industry sector which needs an offering which is different to succeed.

Scott is enthusiastic about the future with good reason. It has been very fulfilling to have helped him with this funding and I am looking forward to being part of the future expansion plans.
